Family Life and Personal Activities

Mr. Torres’ chief past time is caring for his daughter who lost her mother to cancer many years ago. In 2017, Mr. Torres and his daughter joined an excursion in Antarctica where they attended classes in climate change and the preservation of marine life on and within the vicinity of the Antarctic continent. While in Antarctica, Mr. Torres and his daughter participated in 12 land and sea expeditions where they observed and documented multiple species of penguins, seals, whales and birds.

With a minor in Marine Biology, Mr. Torres is a certified diver who studies marine ecosystems and donates his personal resources to support the perseveration of a healthy global marine environment. For example, he was a volunteer in the identification and preservation of sea turtle nests on the island of Culebra off the east coast of Puerto Rico. As an avid diver who is passionate about the preservation of marine life, Mr. Torres has dived throughout the Caribbean where, as a volunteer, he observed and documented several species of vulnerable marine life and documented healthy, dead and decaying coral reefs. His diving experience also includes the coast of South Africa, the Gulf of Aden and the South China Sea.

Mr. Torres holds a black belt in Tae Kwan Do, belts in Kung Fu and Jiu Jitsu and is a former college wrestler and unit boxer while on active military duty. Mr. Torres sponsored and funded USA Jiu Jitsu, a non-profit self-defense organization, whose charter is to train US veterans and government personnel and their families in Jiu Jitsu and self-defense at very low costs; in many cases free of charge. This organization is immensely successful and has grown from a single location in Virginia to across the United States. Mr. Torres also singularly funded a non-profit organization to build a hospice for US Veterans however the program was ultimately cancelled. Mr. Torres is now developing plans for similar programs.
